onceの語源
Old English ænes, from æne ‘once’, subsequently remodelled after Middle English ones, genitive of one. The spelling change in the 16th century was in order to retain the unvoiced sound of the final consonant
古英語のænesはæne「かつて」に由来し、その後、中英語のones（oneの主格）に倣って改作された。16世紀の綴り替えは、最終子音の無声化した音を残すためであった。
